The Axel Thoms Escape Chute offers rapid fire evacuation from buildings when other escape routes are blocked. This escape chute consists of a frame fitted to the inside underneath the window and the chute, which contains an internal spiral, offering safe descent at a controlled speed. It is easily deployed in seconds. The Axel Thoms Escape Chute is available for windows from 4 to 120 metres height above ground. The chute can also be installed on roofs where it is covered by a weatherproof container. It is manufactured in Germany with fire-retardant fabrics and high-strength, load-bearing belts to allow a load of 14,500kg. The deployed chute offers the user a safe entry tunnel, which obscures the height of the chute and prevents users from panicking. The chute is TÜV Certified and guaranteed for 15 years when serviced annually by our specialist engineers.
Comprehensive package including FREE site survey, nationwide delivery, installation and testing of your EvacChute
The frame is specifically designed and manufactured for each installation, securely anchoring the Axel Thoms Escape Chute to the structure of your building.
The combination of the enclosed entrance into the chute and the inner spiral design ensures that the user is not able to see the height they are evacuating from.
TÜV are an international testing facility specialising in certifications, qualifications, training and consultancy services. TÜV test products and services in relation to their compliance with regulations and help to standardise certification throughout the international community. These chutes have been tested and approved by TÜV.
5 load-bearing belts provide the core strength of the EvacChute. Due to the design and construction of the EvacChute, loads of 14,500kg are supported, allowing a continuous flow of people to slide down the chute at the same time.
The protective outer layer of the Axel Thoms Escape Chute is constructed from DIN 4102 class B1 flame-retardant fabric as standard. This can be optionally upgraded to non-flammable DIN 4102 class A2 material for extra protection should you require this.
Closely related to BS 476, DIN 4102 is a German standard for the testing of passive fire protection systems, or their component materials, for the degree of flammability and combustibility. The results of testing that complies with DIN 4102 are split into 5 categories: B3 to B1 followed by A2 and A1, with B3 being the most flammable and A1 being the least. Axel Thoms Escape Chute has a B2 certification as standard.
The inside of an Axel Thoms Escape Chute features a spiral slide that hugs to the side of a descending person reducing the descent speed to a safe 2m/s. Children, disabled persons, pregnant women, and even unconscious persons can use an Axel Thoms Escape Chute as neither technique nor weight of the user will have a significant impact on the speed of descent.
We offer a 15 year guarantee. Due to the life-saving nature of the Axel Thoms Escape Chute the chute requires annual service by our specialist engineers. The lifespan is, of course, longer than 15 years and chutes have been in use for over 30 years.
At the bottom of the Axel Thoms Escape Chute is an exit capsule, designed to offer a safe and easy exit from the chute. It has a soft sitting area from which to exit at a comfortable height and holding handles give the user further stability.
