FAQs (8)
Q. Is a magnet provided with the extinguisher?
A.

Yes, when the engineer installs the extinguisher and gives the training on the yearly service he will leave a magnet with each customer.

Q. What happens after I place the order?
A.

We will confirm a date with you for the visit by our certified engineer. The cost for this visit and all the work the engineer does is included in the price you paid for the extinguishers. The engineer will usually bring the extinguishers with him (if not we will send the extinguishers up front). First of all the engineer will check that the extinguisher is adequate for the building and the use. He/she will then install the extinguisher and train you in the simple yearly visual inspection of the extinguisher. You will then receive a certificate to confirm the training and the suitability of the extinguishers installed. You also receive a form to be filled in by you that needs to be sent to your insurance company to inform them about the new maintenance regime. After that all you have to do is carry on with your normal visual inspection required for any extinguishers and the yearly 3 step visual inspection which needs to be recorded in your fire safety log book. No other activity is required for the next ten years.

Q. Why do P50 fire extinguishers not need to be serviced by a 3rd party extinguisher technician?
A.

P50 service-free fire extinguishers are constructed from components that will not corrode. So, unlike traditional stainless-steel extinguishers there is no need to replace parts that may have corroded over the 10-year period.

Q. Who can carry out the annual visual inspection for P50 fire extinguishers?
A.

Anyone in your organisation can complete the annual visual inspection for P50 service-free extinguishers. To ensure that they are competent in this simple process we train your staff as part of our installation package at no extra cost to you. We will issue staff with training certificates.

Want to see what the annual visual inspections entails? Here is a clear video guide that will show you just how easy it is to maintain your P50 extinguishers.

Q. Are service-free extinguishers accepted by insurance companies?
A.

Most major insurance companies have approved P50 service-free fire extinguishers. Insurance companies usually request that extinguishers are checked annually by a competent or responsible person. The guidelines for extinguisher servicing, the BS 5306-3: 2009 standard, also states that the responsible person should maintain the extinguishers. A responsible person is defined as someone who has had the correct training to carry out this annual inspection as outlined by the manufacturer.

The manufacturer gives clear guidance that only an annual visual check is required and as part of our installation package we will train your staff how to do this. We will provide your staff with a training certificate to demonstrate their competency in this process.

Q. What will I have to do to maintain my P50 fire extinguishers over the first 10 years?
A.

Unlike traditional steel fire extinguishers you will only need to carry out an annual visual inspection each year, there is no need to discharge and refill P50 service-free fire extinguishers after 5 years.

NB. As with all extinguishers you still need to do a monthly walk past of your extinguishers to ensure that they are in the correct position and have not been tampered with.

Q. P50 service-free fire extinguisher have a 20-year lifespan, other than the annual visual check, do I need to anything else in this 20-year period?
A.

After 10 years you will need to have your P50 fire extinguisher factory refurbished. It will then last you another 10 years. Contact our customer care team and they can organise this for you.

Q. How does the P50 service-free fire extinguisher save me over 50% on my extinguisher servicing and maintenance costs?
A.

With traditional steel fire extinguishers you have annual servicing costs, extended servicing at 5 years where a discharge and refill is required and often replacement of extinguishers or parts is required due to corrosion or external damage to the fire extinguisher. With the P50 there are no annual servicing costs, no extended servicing requirement at 5 years, no replacement of parts due to corrosion or damage by UV light, and on top of that the superior fire-fighting power of the P50 extinguishers means that you can often reduce the number of extinguishers you need.

You can also replace your traditional water and CO2 extinguisher combination as the P50 water mist fire extinguisher can be used on electrical fires up to 1000 Volts.

We will come and carry out a free site survey for you and assess the number of extinguishers you require, and where they need to be installed.
