Concealed fire door closers are a version of door closer which are designed to be concealed, or hidden from view when a fire door is completely closed. This type of door closer provides all the functionality of an overhead door closer, but with an aesthetically pleasing finish, reducing the likelihood of vandalism and accidental damage as they are discreetly installed into the fire rated door leaf and its accompanying frame. Due to them being used in fire rated doors, the closing devices are also typically fire rated up to 60 minutes and should be installed by a competent fire door installer with the correct installation equipment, door closer instructions, and intumescent materials.
What is a concealed fire door closer?
A concealed door closer is a device which is installed within the door and its frame enabling the door to close fully when not in use. The benefits of this type of door closer means that the finished look and functionality is not compromised and is proven popular in exclusive resorts. The concealed look also offers a deterrent towards vandalism and even accidental damage which can be seen when an overhead door closer is in use.
What fire doors can use a concealed fire door closer?
Any fire doors can use a concealed fire door closer, as long as it is thick enough in width to accommodate the closer itself. In brand new manufactured doors, the width of the door is either 44mm or 54mm for FD30 and FD60 fire rated doors respectively. It is important to remember that all fire door closers, not specifically concealed fire door closers, MUST be installed as per the manufacturer’s instructions. If the instructions are not followed, this can lead to incorrect installation and the door closer not working correctly and providing effective compartmentalisation.
What are the different types of concealed door closer?
Concealed door closers often come in a standard style, however there are slight differences between the models.
