Being able to detect carbon monoxide is important in today’s modern homes. The gas is undetectable to human senses so by having a carbon monoxide detector it is critical to be able to detect this gas if there is a leak. The additional feature of a digital display offers real-time CO levels in a room and see any dramatic changes in your home, therefore providing you with an early warning of potential problems. As well as offering to display historic peak levels of the CO even when you have not been at home.
Read about Carbon Monoxide (CO) or compare Carbon Monoxide detectors on our CO detector overview page.
The most common sensor type in a carbon monoxide detector is an electrochemical sensor. This type of sensor uses electrodes in an electrolyte to detect carbon monoxide. Upon entering the sensor, a chemical reaction happens and increases the electrical current. In digital carbon monoxide detectors with a display, the concentration is measured in parts per million (PPM) and it displayed on the screen. For domestic carbon monoxide detectors, the alarm will sound when there is a presence of 50ppm or more.
