Our range of fluoro-free fire extinguishers provide eco-friendly alternatives to AFFF foam extinguishers and help minimise your environmental impact. AFFF foam fire extinguishers contain harmful PFAS chemicals and are due to be phased out by law in the near future. These eco-friendly extinguishers do not contain 'forever chemicals' like PFOA or PHFxA which are known to contaminate the environment and have a long-lasting detrimental effect on living beings, from plants and animals to people.
Water mist fire extinguishers contain only de-ionised water, making them completely non-toxic and eco-friendly. Water mist fire extinguishers are usually a suitable replacement for AFFF foam extinguishers as they cover a wide range of fire risks including Class A, Class B, and Class C fires. Di-electrically tested, they are also safe for use around live electrical equipment up to 1000V, making them very versatile.
Capable of tackling all common fires, these extinguishers are suitable for all domestic premises and most businesses.
Replace your standard water and CO2 combination fire points with a single unit, suitable for all common fires.

The use of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) is being restricted world-wide due to their long-lasting, pervasive contamination of the environment. Known as "forever chemicals", some of these POPs have been used extensively throughout most industries over the years as they have some highly desirable properties. These include being resistant to high temperatures as well as being water- and grease-repellent. However, they are now being heavily regulated as more and more research shows the environmental impact they have once disposed of, contaminating the land and water.
This includes groups of fluorinated compounds regularly used in AFFF and additive fire extinguishers: per- & polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in general, and a sub-group called perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) (C8). As foam and additive extinguishers are water-based, when discharged they often run-off into drainage or soak into the ground, spreading PFAS chemicals.
The use of PFOA in fire extinguishers was banned in 2020 but manufacturers had already turned to a short-chain alternative - PFHxA (C6) - which is very closely related to PFOA and bears many of its toxic markers. A ban on PHFxA is expected with the next 2 years and this may include units already commissioned on-site unless discharge can be fully contained.
Most remaining AFFF / Foam and Water Additive extinguishers on the market use PHFxA as their foaming agent. Because it is considered to be relatively safer than its now-banned PFOA and PFOS cousins, extinguishers using PHFxA have often been marketed as "eco" foams but the majority are no different from other current AFFF agents. Now properly recognised as a forever chemical, PHFxA is expected to be banned by 2024/2025, and restrictions on its use in extinguishers may be introduced for units already commissioned. Until truly safe alternatives to AFFF foams have been developed & tested, our PFAS-free alternatives can fill the same role of covering Class A and Class B fires without the use of fluoro chemicals. Water, Water Mist, Powder and CO2 are all 100% fluoro-free.
