Independent Living Aids

These fire and home safety products are ideal for making life a little safer for anyone who needs support to live independently. Somebody with a disability or critical illness may need longer to escape in an emergency. That’s why it’s crucial to install a smoke alarm that will detect a fire at the earliest opportunity and alert the occupant in the most appropriate way. This equipment provides independent living solutions for anyone with a range of disabilities or impairments including dementia, hearing or visual impairments or adults with learning disabilities. Supported living aids can also give peace of mind to carers, family or friends. Choose from our selection of key safes for easy access, or explore FireAngel’s Pro Connected Series which will send alerts to a carer’s mobile phone if a fire is detected.

What is independent living?

What is independent living?

Independent living means supporting someone to take care of themselves and to live at home in a safe way whilst maintaining control of their own lives. Otherwise known as supported living, it can mean putting in place additional living aids or solutions to allow the individual to be able to carry out everyday tasks themselves or to remain safe in their surroundings. Disabled people, the elderly, those with dementia or adults with learning disabilities for example can be supported to live an independent life with appropriate tools and skills.
Why is fire safety important for independent living?

Why is fire safety important for independent living?

Anyone being supported to live independently may need to be alerted to a fire in a different way or need longer to respond or evacuate. A fire safety plan should be made to protect the personal safety of disabled adults or the elderly. It’s a good idea to assess what the likelihood of a fire starting is and whether the person would be alerted to the fire. Escape plans should also be made and practiced regularly so they can be carried out as quickly as possible in an emergency. Safelincs has a range of equipment available that can provide solutions including smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, evacuation equipment and fire prevention products that have extra features to help those with additional needs.
