This magnetic alarm mounting kit is comprised of two metal plates, one of which has magnets to hold them both together. The plates have self-adhesive sticker pads to attach to your wall or ceiling and an alarm's base plate or battery cover. An ideal alternative to using screws, these kits are suitable for surface mounting smoke and heat alarms on the ceiling or carbon monoxide alarms on the wall.
Please Note: To remove the alarm for cleaning, battery replacement, or other maintenance, slide the alarm sideways. DO NOT attempt to pull the alarm directly away from the wall / ceiling, as this may cause paint or wallpaper to pull away as the magnetic mounting plates try to hold together.
Please Note: Any alarms shown in photos are for illustrative purposes only and are not included with the magnetic mounting kit.
Our magnetic alarm mounting kits are designed to permanently hold your smoke, heat, or carbon monoxide alarm in place. However, to ensure optimum performance, the surface to which the alarm will be fixed must be properly prepared and suitably stable. The area where the adhesive pad will be fixed must be flat, clean and free from dust. Attempting to fix your alarm to a dusty or rough surface will not work as the adhesive will not have good, direct contact with the wall or ceiling.
Ceilings and walls are commonly painted with matt (non-shiny) emulsion. Therefore, our sticker pads have been designed with this fact in mind. If your wall or ceiling is finished with anything other than matt emulsion, it may be necessary to lightly abrade the surface (making sure to remove any residual dust) prior to installing the mounting plate.

The best location to install your smoke alarm is in the centre of the ceiling rather than on the wall.
During a fire, smoke initially rises and then spreads horizontally. Placing the smoke alarm in the centre of your ceiling means that it is closest to all four points of your room. This ensures that you receive the earliest possible warning of a fire.
For more information, read our guide to positioning your smoke alarm and guide to which smoke alarms are best for each room.
You should replace your smoke alarm every 10 years. This is because the sensors in the alarm become less sensitive and may not activate when a fire is present.
Sign up to our smoke alarm reminder service to be reminded by text or email when your alarm is due to be replaced.
Smoke alarms can be either screwed to the ceiling using the holes on the base plate (screws provided), or fixed in place using either a self-adhesive sticky pad or a self-adhesive magnetic mounting kit.

Very Simple to Use This method of attachment is very simple and quick and it makes removal for battery changing very quick and simple too. I am a little worried that, should I ever need to remove the plate, it will take off a big chunk of paint from the ceiling that will need filling and repainting.
