To avoid having to change batteries on a regular basis, you can purchase Carbon Monoxide Detectors which are hardwired into the electric system of the house and feature a sealed lithium back-up battery designed to last for the lifetime of the alarm. This is of particular importance if the house is let, to avoid tenants removing batteries from Carbon Monoxide Detectors or removing the detector altogether.
One of the key distinctions between mains-powered and battery-powered carbon monoxide detectors is the cost. Mains powered alarms, feature a back up battery, ensuring that your home is protected even in the event of a mains power failure. The alarms are interconnected either by a wired or wireless connection, so if one alarm sounds all the alarms will sound, giving you the earliest warning of danger. Additionally, they require professional installation by an electrician. In contrast, battery-powered CO alarms are easy to install and offer greater convenience. Advanced battery-powered radio-interlinked alarm systems which include CO detectors can now connect similarly to hard-wired systems. Ensuring that if one carbon monoxide alarm detects CO gas, all alarms will sound. Regulations vary across countries, so the choice between mains-powered or battery-powered alarms often depends on these regulations rather than personal preference.
