The Ei140 series or Ei160 series of detectors can be used with Ei167 remote sounder.
For the mains supply of the first unit a 2-core earth cable would be sufficient. For the connection between the alarms a 3-core earth cable would be required
Check on the side of the alarm and look for the manufacture date and 'replace by' date to see if the alarm requires replacing. Otherwise try cleaning the alarm around the vents with a vacuum nozzle.
The Ei141(ionisation alarm)is the wrong alarm to be located in the kitchen area. We would recommend a heat alarm for kitchen area. The Ei144 heat alarm gives a fire warning when the temperature at the unit reaches 58°C. Heat alarms are ideal for use in kitchens and garages, where the use of optical or ionisation alarms would lead to unwanted nuisance alarms.
The Ei140 series has a small rectangular hole in the side of the unit. To remove the head of the unit you need to disconnect the mains from the unit at the fusebox and insert a small flat head screwdriver in to that hole. Press down slightly with the screwdriver. Slide the head in the direction of the arrow. This should slide off with ease. If not a little pressure may be needed to be able to slide it in the direction of the arrow. There is also a video to demonstrate how to remove your alarm and change the battery on the website.
Yes, the Easichange replacement kits allow you to just change the head of the unit leaving the base plate in place.
To wire the units correctly you would use 2 core and earth cable to the first unit and 3 core and earth to the interconnected units. The alarms do not have to be earthed but a brass screw connector is provided so that the earth can be safety terminated.
