Product Overview

Lithium-ion batteries present a number of risks including 'thermal runaway' which can be triggered by a rise in temperature, shock, or a flaw in the manufacturing. This can lead to the battery igniting and generating a fire that can be very difficult to extinguish.

The Phoenix Battery Commander 1932 safe offers storage and charging solutions for large volumes of lithium-ion products. Protecting property against lithium-ion fires, as well as protecting valuable items from a building fire, the Battery Commander is fitted with heat activated ventilation ducts which securely seals the safe shut to protect it against both potential fire risks. Available with a range of optional features such as smoke detector, alarm, and external heat and alarm monitoring.

  • Designed for the safe storage and charging of lithium-ion products (tested for 90 minutes fire protection)
  • Three heavy duty, height adjustable shelves – suitable for carrying 100kg at a time
  • Charge batteries and devices from the internal surge-protected 8 gang power block
    • Up to 3 additional power blocks can be added to the Battery Commander 1934's pre-wired controllers
  • Fitted with automatic closers and an automatic multipoint locking system to ensure containment
  • Three different locking options:
    • Key lock – supplied with two keys
    • Electronic lock – LED display, dual control, hidden & scrambled code
    • Fingerprint lock – LED display, internal alarm, dual control, hidden & scrambled code with up to 128 fingerprints
  • Dimensions (H x W x D)
    • Internal: 1505 x 510 x 440mm
    • External: 1770 x 690 x 650mm
  • Capacity: 338 litres
  • Fitted with a temperature display providing an accurate temperature from inside the safe
  • Air ventilation ducts fitted as standard

Delivery

Free Standard Delivery

Our free delivery includes the delivery of the safe to your door only. This applies to any UK mainland location. Please note that this safe will be dispatched via courier and cannot be brought into your premises.

Upgrade to Indoor Delivery

If you require the safe to be delivered into the building, you can choose the upgrade to indoor delivery with a hand pallet truck option during the purchasing stage. If you choose this upgrade the driver will arrive with a suitable vehicle with tail lift and pallet truck. The driver will position the safe into any position that can be reached with a hand pallet truck. This can also include the use of any lifts available, as long as the size and weight-carrying capacity of the lift is suitable. The driver will position the safe and remove the packaging. The access to the building must have no obstructions, e.g. steps or door thresholds etc..

Please notify us if you have any steps in the building, as the driver might not be able to move the hand pallet truck over the steps.

Special Delivery over stairs

If you require the safe to be transported to different floor levels via stairs you can fill in our Delivery Form and email it back to us on support@safelincs.co.uk or call us on 0800 612 6537 & we will then discuss your particular situation and can quote any extra transport costs, if necessary.

FAQs (4)
Q. Do lithium-ion batteries explode?
A.

Yes, they can explode! Lithium-ion batteries can explode due to a chain reaction call thermal runaway. This occurs when the battery rapidly increases in temperature, usually from overcharging, exposure to extreme temperatures or moisture, or damage to the cells. Once thermal runaway begins, it will cause an internal fire in the casing which causes a build-up of toxic gases. The pressure eventually causes an explosive reaction.

Generally, lithium-ion batteries are safe to use and charge regularly, as long as they are not damaged, overcharged, or defective.

Q. How do lithium-ion batteries work?
A.

Lithium-ion batteries work by moving lithium-ions between the negative side (Anode) and positive side (Cathode), which creates an electrical current. When charging, lithium-ions move from the cathode to the anode and whilst discharging it is opposite. When the lithium-ions move during a discharge, an electrical current is created and this is what powers the device.

Q. How do you stop a lithium-ion fire?
A.

Stopping a lithium-ion fire is almost impossible due to the ferocity and unpredictable nature of these types of fires. Instead of stopping a fire, it is recommended that preventative measures are taken to ensure that a fire doesn't start. Fireproof charging and storage cabinets are an ideal solution for ensuring that all lithium-ion batteries can be charged and stored safely, even if a fire broke out. These cabinets are designed to contain the fire inside, preventing it from spreading externally.

General advice from the Fire & Rescue Service is to evacuate and get to a place of safety in the event of a lithium-ion fire. Once at a place of safety, call the emergency services and do not attempt to tackle the fire.

Q. What is the difference between a lithium battery and a lithium-ion battery?
A.

Lithium-ion batteries are rechargeable whereas lithium batteries are not. Lithium batteries are more commonly found in products that require long-term, low-power use such as smoke detectors. Lithium-ion batteries are commonly found in items that require recharging frequently such as mobile phones and laptops. Lithium batteries are made up of pure lithium metal, whereas lithium-ion batteries are made up of active materials, such as lithium cobalt oxide (LiCoO2), and do not contain pure lithium metal.
