Photoluminescent Fire Exit Signs

Photoluminescent fire exit signs, also known by glow-in-the-dark exit signs or wayfinding signs, are designed to provide a visual aid helping individuals find their way out of a building during an emergency. Due to the photoluminescent properties of these signs, they are designed to be installed in areas with a regular source of light. The light source effectively ‘charge’ the signs, so that they are able to provide bright, clear imagery in the event of an emergency.

What are photoluminescent exit signs and how do they work?

What are photoluminescent exit signs and how do they work?

Photoluminescent exit signs are easy to understand with directional arrows, which provide guidance to an individual on the quickest route to escape during an emergency. Photoluminescent signs have glow-in-the-dark properties, which means that even in the event of power failure these signs are highly visible even in the dark. The signs are ‘charged’ by the using nearby light during daylight hours, and even lights within a premises to allow for the photoluminescent properties to shine their brightest, and will remain visible even in complete darkness for approximately 60-90 minutes.
