The latches fitted to most doors can offer some extra resistance that must be overcome by the door closer if the door is to close fully. Our range of door closers come with one of two different types of latching action - Fixed or Adjustable - which governs the speed the door closes at during the last 15° of the closing cycle.
Fixed Latching Action
The latching action is not adjustable and is largely governed by the Closing Speed of the door closer. However, if the Closing Speed is adjustable, you will have some control over the latching speed too.
Adjustable Latching Action
The speed during the last 15° of the closing cycle can be increased (e.g. to overcome a stiff latch) or reduced (e.g. to prevent the door from slamming). This is mostly independent of the Closing Speed of the door over the rest of its arc.
