<p>Some years back now, we had our wood burning stove fitted and, despite knowing that a chimney should be cleaned regularly/at least once a year we didn’t have this done – there seemed no reason to! It was little used, it was drawing well, everything appeared in order.</p>

<p>When we did eventually get the chimney cleaned the chimney cleaner was horrified. His checks and tests showed we had ‘been poisoning ourselves’ with the carbon monoxide from the stove, the chimney liner was in fact very furred up, despite not appearing to be. He was very shocked (as we were!) we immediately purchased 2 x detectors (from Safelincs) and now have one in each room with a fire. We also have the chimney cleaned at least once a year!</p>

<p>We have them elsewhere in the house, but hadn’t realised it was advised to have one in the fire rooms.</p>
