The lithium backup battery in this alarm cannot be recharged by the connector plug supplied with the BRK 660MBX, 670MBX, and 690MBX alarms which include an alkaline battery and twist-on base, so it is not suitable as a direct replacement. This alarm will interlink with all other BRK 600 and 700 series alarms and can be used to replace a 600MBX alkaline model, however if the old alarm has a twist-on base then a qualified electrician will be needed to rewire the old connector plug and fit the new connector block (a plug or the entire base plate) supplied with the new alarm. If the old alarm has a push-fit base or a lithium back-up battery then there is no need to rewire the connector and it can be directly swapped out for this product.
Checking which type of alarm is installed is quite straight-forward as the only type affected are the MBX alkaline alarms which have a visible battery door on the back and which are mounted to slimline twist-on bases.
