BS 5839-1 - Fire detection and fire alarm systems for buildings. Code of practice for system design, installation, commissioning and maintenance.
BS 5839 Part 1 specifies recommendations for the planning, design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of fire detection and fire alarm systems in and around buildings (not including dwellings). The standard does not give recommendations on whether or not a fire alarm system should be installed in premises. Within the context of this standard, fire detection and alarm systems ranges from those comprising a simple call point and sounder up to complex networked systems with numerous automatic detectors, call points and sounders connected to indication and control equipment.
