Before configuring the firetext alarm it is improtant that you activate the enclosed SIM card by visiting https://giffgaff.com/activate-sim and following the simple step by step procedure.
Alternatively, if you prefer, your own SIM card can be used in the firetext smoke alarm (please ensure sufficient funds are available).
Step 1: Inserting the battery and SIM card
- Remove the mounting plate by rotating it anti-clockwise (Fig. 2.1).
- Insert the battery that is supplied disconnected in the housing (Fig. 2.2).
- Detach the SIM from its holder. Release the lock on the SIM caddy by placing your thumb on it and sliding in towards the battery housing (Fig. 2.3).
- Insert SIM by sliding it gently into the channels of the caddy ensuring the cut corner of the SIM card is in the correct position. DO NOT FORCE IT. (Fig. 2.4)
- Close the SIM caddy and lock by sliding it away from the battery housing. You should feel it lock into place. (Fig. 2.5)

Step 2: Adding numbers to the Firetext alarm
A maximum of four numbers can be added to the Firetext memory, if more than four numbers are added the first number will be deleted.
Please Note: The firetext configuration period (lasting for 120 seconds) will be fully active 60 seconds after the test button has been triggered on the alarm. It is important that any configuration messages are sent within this period to ensure that the firetext alarm is setup correctly.
- Create a new text message and in the "TO" section enter the mobile number of the SIM card you have inserted into the firetext smoke alarm
- Prepare the configuration text message in the exact format shown below. DO NOT SEND THE MESSAGE YET!
- NUM
-
- 01234567890
- ,
- 09876543210
- The word NUM
- SPACE
- NUMBER 1
- COMMA
(with no spaces either side)
- NUMBER 2
Your written text message should appear as follows: NUM 01234567890,09876543210
- Press the test button on your firetext alarm for 2 seconds. This will cause the alarm to sound for a few seconds
- Wait for around 60 seconds and press send on your pre configured text message
- After a further 60 seconds (approx.) you should recieve a confirmation text message showing the number(s) added and an indication of the alarms signal strength.
eg: "01234567890 numbers(s) added, signal strength good"
Please Note: If you do not receive a confirmation text within 2-3 minutes repeat step 3 and await your confirmation text message. If you still do not receive a text message please contact our technical support team for further advice.
