Fully Automatic:
Designed for those with little to no training, a fully-automatic device provides visual and audible instructions, and is designed to issue a shock automatically if one is required (there is no need to press any buttons).
Semi-Automatic:
Designed for those who are more familiar with defibrillators, a semi-automatic device will prompt the user to press a button if the patient requires a shock, however a semi-automatic device can still be used by anyone as they are designed to provide comprehensive instructions. Even if the button is pressed, the defibrillator will only issue a shock if one is actually required. Some devices can provide ECG (electrocardiogram) readings for use by healthcare professionals.
