Preparation:
- Before using the Davy Descender carry out a brief security inspection to ensure the unit has not been tampered with.
- If the Descender is not permanently located at the fixing point, open the cover or enclosure where the descender is stored and attach it to the eye at the fixing point.
- Check to make sure the karabiner is latched and fully locked.
- Ensure that the descent path is clear of obstructions.
Davy descender operating instructions:
- 1. Drop the reel (only if using the rubber cable reel) to the landing level.
- 2. Pass the sling over the head and under the arms, then move the sling slider into the chest removing the slack.
- 3. Pull on the free end of the rope to remove any slack and make the descent rope taut.
- 4. Gently move out from the step off point and descent will commence.
- 5. Prepare for landing by bending the knees.
- 6. After landing quickly remove the sling so that the subsequent escapees can make their descent by repeating steps 4 - 6.
- 7. After an evacuation the responsible person must inspect and check over the unit before repacking and returning to use.
