Heat detectors detect fire by measuring the temperature around the heat detector. If y threshold is reached or if the temperature rises very rapidly, the heat detector raises an alarm. Heat alarms are ususally installed in kitchens, as they are insensitive to the smoke from burned toast etc in a kitchen. They do, however, only cover a very small area, so they are usually unsuited for dining rooms etc.

Another good application is in garages, but care must be taken, that a sufficient number of heat detectors are installed to cover the full area.
