@Safelincs these extinguisher are PLASTIC...plastic parts require replacement after FIVE YEARS................
P50s are built with the same materials as modern propane gas bottles or bullet proof vests. A cocoon of aramid fibres (such as Kevlar) is spun around an inner container manufactured of three-layered composite plastic for the chemicals and the whole unit is protected against UV light by an outer sleeve. P50s are not only kitemarked by BSI to BS EN3 they are additionally tested to the PED (Pressure Equipment Directive). That means that the extinguishers are pressurised 12000 times from zero to 25 bar. After this ordeal they are crushed flat, then re-pressurised to 55 bar and not allowed to leak even then. To say that these extinguishers are just ‘plastic’ is like saying that modern aeroplanes are ‘just glued’ together. Just to emphasise again: the P50 do not need to, or in fact must not, be refilled after 5 years but are instead factory refurbished after then years to give an extra ten year life. All chemicals used are guaranteed by the chemical manufacturers to last well in excess of 10 years in the P50.
