P50 service-free extinguishers are the latest fire extinguisher technology and have been for sale since 2013. They are manufactured by Britannia in Norfolk and are distributed by Safelincs Ltd. P50s are designed to overcome traditional risks from metal extinguishers, mainly corrosion, dinting, pressure loss and chemical ageing of the fire fighting agent. As a result, the chemicals are guaranteed for twice the traditional lifespan of 5 years and the extinguishers do not require any service activity. Instead, the customer visually inspects the extinguishers once a year.
P50s offer significant cost savings and halve the use of chemicals used for fire extinguishers by not requiring a refill after 5 years.
P50 extinguishers are kitemarked, safe for use on live electrics and since the start of their sales in 2013 P50s have been installed in thousands of offices, businesses, organisations, universities, colleges, churches, offshore platforms and vessels.
